Camp Takes A Heavy Toll On Mascots

"For the life of me, I can't figure out why we lose so many mascots," confessed Bryon Bierema, the Borgess Health & Fitness Center staffer in charge of camp mascots, after the latest mascot tragedy.

Tuesday's Child (shown above), who had only been in camp for two weeks, got run off by chocolate aliens during the brief warm spell following last Saturday's run. This is the sixth mascot lost to Borgess Run Camp in the past two years.

Bierema planned to begin interviews immediately to replace Tuesday's Child, but as of Sunday night only had applications from mallards and lizards. Lizards are not eligible to serve as camp mascots.

In unrelated camp news, the annual "Blessing of the Rodents" is scheduled for this Saturday.

Hi, Sally Mander here with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty and Discrimination to Lizards and Amphibians, otherwise known as the SPCDLA. I am shocked and appalled to hear that our cold-blooded cousins are banned from eligibility as Run Camp mascots. If this ban is not lifted, our organization will be forced to picket all Run Camp activities. Some of our members can get quite cranky this time of year, so I would urge you to reconsider your position.

Sally, Sally, Sally.

We don't let them be mascots because we consider them sacred.

...Yes, it is well-referenced in Article 17, Chapter 2 of the Preamble of the Ordo pro Benedictum Rodentium that we used at this sacred ritual last year!!!

We appreciate your validation and support on these important issues, Phyllis.

See you at the Blessing!

Late-breaking news. We have a chicken in the running for camp mascot. Too close to the "San Diego Chicken?" Plus, need we remind experienced campers what happened to the Camp Pheasant?
