Some days you're the donkey. Some days you're the cart. Some days it doesn't make any difference.

But it does make a difference when you get involved in a young person's life. We don't typically make appeals at run camp for outside activities (like cause runs and stuff), but we're a big fan of Girls on the Run. This after-school program for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade girls combines lessons on self-esteem with training for a 5k run/walk and encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. The 11-week program will be offered to 1,800 girls beginning March 19. Want to see an informal slide show we put together on the program? Just click here.

Being a Girls on the Run coach is a life-changing experience. Applications must be received by Tuesday, February 6, at 5 pm. Visit Girls On The Run or call Sandy Barry-Loken at 491-6855.
